LEXINGTON, KY (June 1) - During the severe storms and tornado outbreak of March 2, KYEM deployed, for the first time, BERT to conduct structural collapse searches in West Liberty. Kentucky Emergency Management (KYEM) along with elected officials will publicly recognize and thank the members of the Bluegrass Emergency Response Team (BERT) for their efforts during the March 2, 2012 tornadoes that ripped through West Liberty and Morgan County, Kentucky.
Governor Beshear Signs Disaster Relief and Recovery Legislation
WEST LIBERTY (May 25) – This spring’s devastating storms and tornadoes thrashed Kentucky communities, marking the 11th federally-declared disaster in the Commonwealth since 2008. Disaster Relief Sales and Use Tax Legislation - On April 16, 2012, Gov. Beshear signed into law the provisions of House Bill 255 which provide a refund of sales and use tax paid for building materials permanently installed in the repair or replacement of buildings damaged in counties covered under a federal disaster relief declaration. The legislation is retroactive to provide tax relief for property owners in the 23 disaster counties affected by the storms in late February and early March of 2012. [Read More...]
In response to the outbreak of severe weather which struck Kentucky Friday, March 2, 2012, Governor Steve Beshear declared a State of Emergency to allow local officials immediate access to state resources to assist in public safety and recovery efforts.
Governor Beshear officially requested federal assistance from President Barrack Obama on Monday, March 5 and received word President Obama awarded a Major Disaster Declaration for Individual Assistance, Tuesday evening. [Read More...]
