February of 2013, will be Kentucky Earthquake Awareness Month. In support of that, the Kentucky Division of Emergency Management (KYEM) would like to recommend a wonderful tool that will aide students and families in learning important information about earthquakes and how to better prepare for these and other natural disasters.
KYEM is offering this free, downloadable, instructional unit called, "Earthquake Awareness and ShakeOut Teachers Toolkit (PowerPoint)" (Powerpoint-15.4MB). This resource was designed for all 3rd through 5th grade students, providing a thorough understanding of earthquakes and how to better prepare themselves and their family. Created by local elementary teachers, it provides the tools needed to complete a week-long learning unit. For more details of what is included within the unit download the 2013 Outline KYEM Earthquake Awareness and ShakeOut Teachers Toolkit (PDF-353KB).
Please share this page with your fellow educators. It is critical that our citizens, communities, and schools be prepared for all natural disasters, including earthquakes.
