Training & Exercise
The Kentucky Division of Emergency Management is the proponent organization and advocate for emergency management training in the Commonwealth as outlined in KRS 39A and 106 KAR 1:210 and 106 KAR 1:220.
The KyEM Training and Exercise Section coordinates and presents quality training and exercises in support of state and local emergency management preparedness, response and recovery efforts. The Training and Exercise Section is made up of several programs to ensure training and exercise needs are fulfilled for various audiences throughout the Commonwealth.
- Chemical Stockpile Emergency Preparedness Program coordinates training for first responders and emergency management personnel located in the counties surrounding the Blue Grass Army Depot that would respond in the event of a chemical release.
- Emergency Management Development Program provides training to emergency management agency personnel to fulfill training requirements established in KRS 39B and KRS 39C.
- Employee Program coordinates training for KyEM employees to ensure employee preparation in every aspect of emergency management with training conducted as monthly in-service sessions, annual and semi-annual sessions in order to perform their jobs safely and effectively.
- Hazardous Materials Program provides Hazardous Materials training in different levels such as Awareness and Operations for a variety of disciplines such as fire, public works, clean up, emergency operation's center, and emergency support functions.
- Search and Rescue Program provides training for persons engaged in search and rescue activities to meet training requirements as estblished in KRS 39F.200 and KRS 39F.210.
- Exercise Program "tests and evaluates" local plans based on written objectives to identify deficiencies and improve response to a simulated emergency.
